Medical imaging and diagnostic equipment (MIDE) is increasingly being networked to Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS), Radiology Information Systems (RIS), Hospital Information Systems (HIS), and getting connected to the hospital intranet as well as the Internet.
Failing to implement the necessary physical infrastructure can result in unexpected downtime, and safety and compliance issues, which translates into lost revenue and exposure to expensive litigations, negatively affecting the bottom line. This paper explains how to plan for physical infrastructure when deploying medical imaging and diagnostic equipment, with emphasis on power and cooling.
Did you know your employee uniforms can provide better care for aging Australians? Scrub uniform colours can improve visibility and entice different emotional and physical responses.
Your employee uniforms should have specific colour schemes but should also be comfortable and stylish for your care workers.
Here’s why employee uniforms can benefit care workers and some advice when choosing and cleaning your scrub uniforms.
Living a good life longer (nearly a decade longer) is something to celebrate, with the majority ageing at home within their community. But statistically living longer can mean increasing disability with over a third of people experiencing mild or moderate disability as they age1. Although only one percent of Australians aged 65-74 live in cared accommodation2 such as nursing homes, the percentage increases to nearly a quarter (24 percent) once they reach 85 years old. Nearly half of Australians in permanent residential aged care have depression, compared to 10-15 percent of older Australians living in the community3.

In 2021 we saw new care models, digital services, infrastructure projects and systems continue rolling out to meet the surmounting care needs of Australian citizens, whilst highlighting the gaps in connectivity and policy across Australia’s primary, aged care and acute care services.
As we transition into 2022 the intent in the health sector is to move beyond point solution implementation and onto sector-wide sustainability.
What spatial features, technologies, solutions and workforce advancements are yielding the greatest benefits to help achieve this though?
To understand and answer this question, we’ve compiled insights from over 100 Australian healthcare professionals to uncover how their investments and priorities have been shaped by the pandemic and to glean insight into the investment priorities transforming healthcare in 2022 and beyond.

Looking to
streamline project delivery healthcare providers look to partners, like
yourselves, to provide solutions, share expertise, deliver innovations and help
overcome challenges.
While
healthcare project investment and innovation is at an all-time high; driven by
the enlightened and technologically savvy customer as well as by recent exposés
into the quality of care being provided, Australia is a small market on the
global scale and competition for these lucrative contracts high.
With this
in mind we picked the brains of four leaders in the healthcare space to learn
more about what they look for when scouting for project partners. Read on to
explore insights from NSW Health Infrastructure, Children’s Health Queensland
and Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service.
Ahead of Australian
Healthcare Week 2020 we picked the brains of over 100 Australian healthcare
professionals to learn more about the design, technology and talent trends they
see driving patient experience innovation and investment priorities in 2020 and compiled them into our
exclusive Market Outlook which will help your business better understand unique
challenges faced, investment priority areas and budget allocations.
Ahead of Australian
Healthcare Week 2019 we take a look at the work platinum event sponsor Oneview
has done in partnership with The Sydney Children’s Hospital Network, and delve
into the benefits these innovative technologies are delivering to patients and
their carers.
Most
solution providers start with a single product and through experience they
learn about customer need. Adding value to their existing products, they
introduce new, but related products to the product line. For a long time it has
been believed that bundling products with related services creates a solution.
This at best though makes for an interesting pitch.
A true
solution provider will however never start with what they can sell, and instead looks at what they can
solve. To truly provide a solution you
need to look at customer needs holistically, understand market gaps, emerging
trends and harness customer insights – especially with the recent uptick in
customer expectations driven by the amount of choice available in the modern
market. Ideally an effective solution provider will successfully address not
just current challenges, but those hitherto unrecognised by their customer
base.
Ahead of
Australian Healthcare Week 2020 Ben Beville of Southern Cross Protection (SXP)
chats to us about how SXP found a solution gap, and how they’re now working to
deliver unique healthcare solutions that meet the growing challenge of
combatting violence and aggression and improving hospital and health facility
security.
Simulation is an incredibly valuable activity when testing new processes, tools or designs, to determine functionality and usability. In May 2020, Mater Education created a prototype simulation on the newly designed endoscopy cleaning galley.
Mater Education’s OptiSim team constructed a prototype room mirroring the new designed endoscopy cleaning galley, to assess the new environment for functionality and usability prior to design sign-off and building commencement.
By engaging the staff who would be working in the space, the simulation provided an opportunity for Mater endoscopy nurses to imitate their day-to-day processes in the prototype room, and effectively determine if the new design was fit for purpose. During the simulation, adjustments were actively identified to avoid the need for a redesign of the space post-build.
“The simulation was a fantastic way to show the users what the design would look like in reality. On paper, it seemed to be a cramped space and the users were concerned that they would not be able to undertake their work properly. The simulation concluded that the design would be appropriate and also identified a couple of changes to optimise the area.”
Brittany Stanton, Major Projects Manager, Mater Group
The endoscopy cleaning galley prototype simulation provided the following key outcomes for Mater:
• Identification and rectification of ineffective layout prior to commencement of building works.
• End-user engagement and acceptance was achieved early in the project timeline.
• Adjustments made to overall planning to allow for adequate storage requirements.
Mater Education's OptiSim allows for safer, more effective and efficient healthcare delivery. Learn more about how your team or facility can benefit from simulation.
Ahead of the Digital
Healthcare Summit and Australian Healthcare Week 2019 we take a look at Australian
Cyber Security, with a key focus on My Health Record. We then explore how
public concerns can be effectively addressed through new security measures,
greater understanding and improved security and control of sensitive health
information, with tips and insight from the Australian Federal Police.
Ahead of the Aged Care
Summit and Australian Healthcare Week 2019 we look at the biggest challenges
affecting Australian Aged Care providers and explore the innovative strategies
being harnessed in a bid to ease the mounting pressure of an aging population
and meet changing consumer expectations.
In late 2019 the team at AHW HQ released the newest Healthcare Week Report (if you missed it you can grab a copy here). The report found that as we move into the new decade the healthcare sector is experiencing a great deal of disruption. This disruption is driven by empowered consumers - change agents who have high expectations of the healthcare ecosystem and of their healthcare providers.
Through a survey of over 100 Australian healthcare professionals the report determined which hospital design and development trends were deemed the most effective at driving the experiences the modern, connected and informed patient wants from their healthcare provider. What has emerged as the biggest contributor to wellbeing, patient experience and care is the stress free environment.
Ahead of the Health Facilities Design and Development Summit 2020 we take a look at the five design trends Australian healthcare professionals have deemed key to creating stress free, patient-centric healthcare environments. Read on to learn more about each trend and explore use cases and practical applications for each.
Healthcare organizations face growing challenges related to infectious disease control. Although adherence to best practices such as frequent hand washing and the use of personal protective equipment are regarded as the leading weapons against infectious disease spread and hospital-acquired infections, the built environment, including the HVAC systems, also play an important role.
Strides in the development of smart building operation management platforms that easily and cost-effectively integrate with a facility’s existing systems can give healthcare providers a powerful tool with which to enhance the effectiveness of their overall infection control programs
The Australian Healthcare Week Expo is back in 2021, held on the 17-18 March at the ICC, Sydney!
